In an earlier post, I wrote about our house hunting process and how God blessed us during it. Well, we are moved in now and boy, do I have some updates for you.
First of all, we love our new neighborhood. Lago Mar has been so welcoming, even during a quarantine. We have a very active and interesting Facebook group page where everyone in the neighborhood connects even when we can't physically be together. There are always people walking around or riding bikes or, my personal favorite, riding their golf carts around the community. If you are a taco truck kind of person, then we have about 5 or 6 different options for you. They have been stopping in front of my house the past few days and several of the work crews order from them. I am super tempted to get something, but I think I will wait until all of this COVID stuff is in the rearview mirror. Speaking of work crews... these guys are amazing!!! I have been documenting some of their work on my Instagram and Facebook stories. Snaps to them!
Lago Mar is a master-planned community that is projecting to build somewhere around 4,000 homes. Yep, bigger than some towns in East Texas. They are building a giant 12-acre white sand lagoon in the neighborhood where I have a 100% probability of getting a sunburn. We are going to have a road that will connect directly to the Tanger Outlet Mall and Buc-ee's. So... there is where all of my money will be spent. I wonder if I can get one of those fancy cups where I can get free refills on ICEEs?!?! I may need to check into that. One of the things that I just recently found out about our area is that there are another 300-400 acres on the east side of I-45 that is also going to be somehow affiliated with Lago Mar. So, if you are calculating... it is safe to say that there are going to be a LOOOTTTTT of people moving into our area over the next several years. So, we are excited to see what God has in store for our church in this area.
So, what is neighboring? Is that even a word? Is Kyle losing it as an extrovert trapped in his house during this quarantine? Well, maybe.
There are a couple of things about neighboring that I think are important to identify from the onset:
1. Your neighbors are the ones who live next to you, on your street, in your neighborhood.
2. You notice your neighbors and your neighbors notice you.
3. God has placed these people near you for a reason.
4. When asked about what is most important, Jesus responded with loving God and loving NEIGHBORS.
Neighboring is not a new concept. It has more to do with effort than anything else. Funny thing, I feel like more people are neighboring during this quarantine than ever before. People are taking walks around their neighborhood, playing in the front yard, and saying "hi" to the people that they live by. Obviously, we are unable to take it any steps past that right now, but what if you used this newfound interaction with those who live closest to you for the Kingdom? Neighboring is about knowing these people, listening to their stories, helping them when they are struggling, and asking them to help you when you are struggling. Neighboring is about choosing to love even when it is not easy or convenient.
Are you game? If so, try to fill this out.
A- Write the names of the people who live in the house represented by the box.

A- Write the names of the people who live in the house represented by the box.
B- Write down some relevant information about each person. Something that you couldn't see just by standing in your driveway.
C- Write down some in-depth information you would only know by connecting with them. Their career aspirations or family dreams. Something to do with the purpose of their lives.
No worries if you struggle to fill this out. This is a tool and a guide. It keeps you accountable and teaches you to think about those around you on a core level. When I first did this exercise I was embarrassed. I thought I was a pretty good neighbor, but it challenged me to be more intentional with those who live around me.
I am not sure how this will play into our new church, but I believe that being a GREAT neighbor will play a significant role in our body. This is a phrase that has been stuck in my head and I think will be linked to how we live as neighbors.
"We want to meet people where they are, as they are, and show them who they are in Christ."
This may be the suppressed extravert in me, but this is getting me really excited!!! If you are interested in connecting with us in any way, shape, or form, just reach out. We would love to loop you in.
